Famous actor, activist, and philanthropist Ed Asner, 91, has died. The star passed away peacefully on Sunday morning. And also, it has been confirmed that family surrounded him. The former chairman of the Screen Actors Guild was best known as Lou Grant in the 1970s and early 1980s. And also, he starred in both The Mary Tyler Moore concert and its spinach series Lou Grant. Especially, his work in concerts has made him one of the few TV actors to have portrayed the same character in both comedy and drama.

Ed Asner’s family confirmed the sad news of his death on Twitter on Sunday. And also the actor’s bereaved family wrote: “I am sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away peacefully this morning. 

“The grief we feel cannot be expressed in words. With a kiss on your head – Goodnight, Dad.” “We love you.”

But his career took a turn for the worse when he landed the role of Lou Grant. The provocative television news director on CBS Mary Tyler Moore premiered in the 1970s. Thanks to the popularity of his character, the concert was very popular and ran for seven successful seasons. Primarily, it soon became one of the most popular TV series.

The famous actor won three consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series from 1971 to 1973 as Lou Grant. After the departure of Mary Tyler Moore, the much-loved actor rewrote his character from the drama series Le Grant – Grant worked as a city editor for a Los Angeles newspaper. 

The play ran for five seasons from 1977 to 1982. During that time, Ed was nominated five times for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series. And after winning twice, he won two awards. The actor has appeared on several of the biggest TV shows in the United States, including ER, The X-Files, Control Your Enthusiasm, Good Wife and Modern Family.
